We always look for a good deal. But we need to consider what we are getting for our money, the cheapest isn’t always the best. I recently bought a new car, I was specific about what I wanted. My wife laughs, but I want the automatic windshield wipers and the heated seats and yes, that does cost more. The same is true for IT services. Although many people do not know what they are comparing when it comes to IT services.
Why Automatic Windshield Wipers
Yes, my wife was definitely rolling her eyes, but as technology becomes more and more sophisticated we want things to make our life easier. We spend enough of our days working on repetitive processes and finding a way to automate the mundane daily tasks does make things smoother and more efficient and automatic windshield wipers are one of those things!
You may think these automations will simply cost you more, but actually the opposite is usually the result. Once you automate a process it frees you up to do so many more important things and time is the most precious commodity there is!
Think about the things you do on a daily basis, the repetitive things. I’m always looking for a way to automate these items for myself and our clients.
Some examples of late:
Job site billing: We have one client that is now using a software that automates a lot of the billing for jobs they do. This saves him up to 10 hours a week that he can spend on far more important tasks and things are still getting billed on time.
Tying your timeclock into your payroll application: We had a client that was entering time manually for all of their 20 employees every other week! We connected a timeclock application to their payroll and now all the numbers appear in the payroll program!
Our own marketing CRM: for some time now, we have been using a marketing CRM for direct mail, a separate one for emailing clients and a third one for client management and ticketing. That is all about to change as we will be moving to a marketing CRM that will tie into our client management and ticketing portal so that as potential clients become clients they will be automatically moved over in our systems. This will save us vast amounts of time we have been spending re-entering data into different systems!
And of course, Automatic windshield wipers: Here in Arizona it doesn’t rain that often, but when it does I always hate to turn on the windshield wipers, adjust them for the amount of rain, then re-adjust them for less rain, then re-adjust them for more rain! Automate it!! No more having to guess what the best setting is, the car handles it for me. And yes it does cost a bit more, but it saves me in frustration!
